Welcome to the Maternal and Child Health Policy Workshop!
Date: Friday, October 31st
Location: Morehouse School of Medicine, Calvin Smyre Center
At the Maternal & Child Health Policy Workshop, you can expect a full day of learning, collaboration, and action. The event kicks off with breakfast and a chance to connect with peers before diving into introductions from community groups working across maternal and child health issues in Georgia.
Throughout the day, you’ll:
- Gain insight into key topics such as fertility and infertility, Black maternal health, community health worker certifications, doulas, donor human milk, and efforts to reduce barriers like the diaper tax.
- Learn the foundations of policy and advocacy through an interactive “Policy & Advocacy 101” session.
- Work directly in small groups to develop a policy pitch on real issues facing Georgia families.
- Present your pitch to policymakers and receive live feedback from legislators.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll walk away with hands-on advocacy experience, a deeper understanding of maternal and child health in Georgia, and new connections with community organizations and fellow changemakers.
