Empowering Future Public Health Leaders: Spotlight on ERHA and PHACW

February 18, 2025

At Emory’s Maternal and Child Health Center of Excellence, we are proud to support student organizations that are at the forefront of promoting health, equity, and community engagement. Two standout organizations making significant strides on campus and beyond are the Emory Reproductive Health Association (ERHA) and Public Health Advocates for Children’s Wellness (PHACW)

Emory Reproductive Health Association (ERHA)

The Emory Reproductive Health Association (ERHA) is a student-led organization dedicated to creating a diverse and inclusive space for all students. By developing innovative projects, programs, and events centered on sexual and reproductive health, ERHA fosters an environment where reproductive justice, abortion rights, and comprehensive health education can thrive.

A Legacy of Leadership and Advocacy

Founded by Lindsey Lubbock and Maureen McDonald, ERHA emerged from a vision of empowerment and a commitment to advancing reproductive health on campus. The organization’s identity was shaped with the guidance of Dr. Roger Rochat, professor emeritus of global health and epidemiology and the founding advisor who also started the GEMMA fund.

Mission and Impact

ERHA’s mission is not only to provide a safe and supportive space for students but also to educate and offer meaningful community engagement opportunities. The organization extends its impact beyond Emory’s campus, engaging with the greater Atlanta Metro community through:

PHACW: Advocating for Children’s Health and Wellbeing

PHACW empowers Emory Rollins students to work collaboratively with community partners to improve children’s health and wellbeing. Through partnerships with schools, hospitals, and local agencies, PHACW provides essential resources, educational programs, and advocacy campaigns that address critical child health issues.

Making an Impact Through Collaboration

PHACW’s work is driven by a commitment to ensuring that every child has access to the care and support they need. By engaging with community partners, the organization:

A Commitment to Community and Innovation

Both ERHA and PHACW exemplify the spirit of innovation and community engagement that is at the heart of the Emory MCH Center of Excellence. By supporting these organizations, we are investing in the next generation of public health leaders who are passionate about driving meaningful change, advocating for social justice, and improving health outcomes for all.

Whether you’re interested in reproductive health advocacy or championing children’s wellbeing, ERHA and PHACW offer unique opportunities to make a tangible impact on campus and in the community. We encourage all students to get involved, learn from their peers, and join in these important initiatives.
